Head Coach – 16U Ice

Dervon Lewis

Dervon has been playing competitive indoor volleyball since 1989.  He has played at all levels – high school, club, university and on the Jamaica National team as an outside hitter. He continues to play intermediate rec level volleyball intermittently.

Dervon received his first coaching certification in 1994 through the FIVB SAP Program.  He has coached at the university (men’s and women’s) and senior club level between 1994 and 2014.  A recent immigrant to Canada, Dervon is excited to be back coaching at Smash Raiders where he worked with the 14U team last season, and is looking forward to another rewarding year at the club.  Dervon became a Certified Development Coach in Canada in 2024.  He also hopes to resume service as a volleyball referee.

Dervon’s coaching philosophy is the following:

Winning is not the goal of coaching.  The goal is to develop a group of individual athletes into a team based on their capacity, goals, and expectations.  With this athlete centric focus, winning becomes a by-product of their development.

With a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s degree in engineering management from Florida International University in Miami, Dervon works as a Construction Project Manager.  He lives in Burlington with his wife Annie and their three children.
