 12U POTATOES COACHES

Matthew Smith

Head Coach 12U Potatoes

Matt’s volleyball journey began in high school, where he competed on several rep teams, and continued through university while balancing varsity rugby training. These experiences not only deepened his passion for sport but also taught him the importance of discipline, teamwork, and resilience—values he carries into his coaching today.

As a trained Development Coach, Matt places a strong emphasis on the technical side of volleyball. He is committed to helping athletes develop a solid foundation in core skills, ensuring they build the confidence and ability needed to succeed as they progress in the game. He believes that when athletes master the fundamentals, they are better prepared to grow both on the court and beyond it.

Over the past 15 years, Matt has taught at the intermediate level while coaching both junior and senior boys’ and girls’ volleyball. His approach combines technical instruction with a commitment to personal growth, fostering athletes who are not only skilled players but also strong teammates, leaders, and members of their community.

Outside of coaching, Matt enjoys supporting his two daughters in their gymnastics training and competitions, often found cheering them on from the sidelines or driving them to practice.

Robyn Smith

Assistant Coach 12U Potatoes

This is Robyn’s second year coaching at SRVC. She’s played and competed in multiple sports and was first introduced to volleyball in high school. Her love for the game grew as she continued playing through university and then OVA and women’s league volleyball until just a few years ago. She also has experience coaching gymnastics and volleyball. Robyn’s main goal is to create a supportive team environment, build confidence in the players and help foster a love for the game.

Off the court, Robyn works as a scientist and enjoys spending time with her family and supporting her two daughters’ sports teams.

Kate St. Onge

Assistant Coach 12U Potatoes

A lifelong athlete, Kate has cultivated a deep passion for a wide range of sports. Her connection to volleyball is especially strong—she has played the sport for over 30 years, beginning in elementary school, continuing through university where she played Varsity as a setter, and still actively competing today in a women’s league.

In addition to her playing experience, Kate has coached volleyball at the high school level, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with young athletes. She firmly believes that sport provides powerful opportunities for collaboration, leadership, and personal growth. This belief also guides her work in education, where she currently works as a secondary school Vice Principal.

Kate is thrilled to be joining SMASH this year as a coach and looks forward to supporting athletes as they develop their skills and build their confidence.

Graham Bullock

Assistant Coach 12U Potatoes

Graham is a passionate and dedicated coach who brings a broad background in various sports to the volleyball court. Though new to volleyball, Graham has years of experience across multiple sports, with a strong focus on building athleticism, confidence, and teamwork in young athletes.

Graham’s coaching philosophy centers on creating a positive, inclusive, and growth-focused environment, especially for young girls beginning their athletic journey. With an emphasis on personal development as well as physical and emotional skill-building, Graham is committed to helping each player grow not only as an athlete but as a confident and resilient individual.

Driven by a belief that sports can shape character and lifelong skills, Graham brings energy, patience, and encouragement to every session—laying the foundation for strong, empowered athletes both on and off the court.
