Dave has been part of the Smash Volleyball Club supporting his daughters for the past two years and is looking forward to his third season. With a background in playing many different sports throughout his life, he is excited to begin his coaching journey with Smash. Outside of volleyball, Dave enjoys golf, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. He owns his own HVAC company while also working for a corporation, giving him a strong understanding of time management and the importance of balancing work, life, and sport.

Richard Ilao

Assistant Coach 15U Synergy

Richard started playing volleyball in high school as a setter, where he developed a deep appreciation for the strategy, communication, and quick decision-making the position demands. Since then, he has continued competing in various sports leagues across multiple disciplines, always bringing the same intensity and commitment to every team he has been part of.

Volleyball has remained a constant passion throughout Richard’s athletic journey. As a setter, he has always valued being the connector on the court— helping run the offense, supporting teammates, and staying calm under pressure.

Beyond playing, Richard is passionate about teaching younger athletes the importance of teamwork and leadership. He prides himself on building leaders both on and off the court— developing not just better athletes, but better people. Whether through mentorship or leading by example, he aims to create a positive and growth-focused environment for every athlete he works with.

Richard’s goal is to instill a strong work ethic and a winning mentality in those around him. He believes in showing up, putting in the work, and creating a culture where everyone supports each other and pushes to get better every day.
