Mark Ciavarella

ASSISTANT COACH - 17U CYCLONES
Mark was born and raised in Dundas, now lives in Millgrove, and is a teacher with the HWDSB. He has been teaching for 28 years and is the Assistant Head of Mathematics and teacher at Waterdown District High School. He has been coaching senior girls and boys high school volleyball for over 20 years. Currently the Senior Boys Volleyball coach at Waterdown, twice he has taken trips to OFSAA with those teams. Outside of volleyball, he has been coaching the Senior Boys Soccer team at Waterdown for over 20 years and has seen city championships and OFSAA experiences with those teams as well. This is Mark’s 3rd season with the OVA. With his strong passion for coaching, he is looking to help develop players with a focus on communication, team building and technique. As a dad of 2 girls, and a teacher of thousands of teenagers, he has developed insight in how to coach kids in various styles. His goal is always the same; to bring out the very best in every individual and help them develop as players and as teammates.

Kayde Marshall

ASSISTANT COACH - 17U Cyclones ASSISTANT COACH - 14U Attack

This is Kayde’s second year coaching with Smash Raiders. She is excited to be an Assistant Coach with the 17U Cyclones & 14U Attack teams.

Kayde is a fully Certified Development Coach, and has been coaching volleyball on and off since she was 17 and has 10 years of Head Coaching experience in the OVA.

She played post-secondary volleyball for Niagara college for 3 seasons in different positions. Kayde has recovered from multiple injuries incurred during playing, including 2 ACL tears, so as a coach she understands how important mental health and active recovery are for an athlete, especially after an injury.

Kayde’s coaching philosophy comes down to 3 things:

  1. Serving and defence wins games
  2. Fundamentals are always important
  3. Discipline drives competitiveness
